Green rooftops are defined as structures that have a layer of living plants on top of the structure.  This includes waterproofing elements.  They protect the roof from sunlight, thus extending its life.  They also keep the roof cooler, cutting down on energy costs, and they provide a source of oxygen and habitat for wildlife.

New Majestic Hotel

The "New Asia" style of hospitality finds one of its most rarefied expressions in the New Majestic Hotel, located in the heart of Singapore’s Chinatown. An open-concept period-inspired lobby shows the imaginative possibilities of this marriage of old and new, or "heritage chic", as the luxury hotel calls its particular design savvy, which also takes into account its period furniture dating from the 1920s to the 1960s.

Individually designed rooms, 30 in all, continue the mix of vintage and designer furniture, customized baths, and can include private gardens and six-meter ceilings in attic-style suites. Five rooms have also been personalized by some of Singapore’s most influential talents from cinema, theatre and fashion. Every detail from bedding (the New Majestic calls it a "bedscape") to bathroom (freestanding copper tubs) has been re-imagined. Some rooms feature floor to ceiling mirrors; others feature aquarium-themed transparent bathrooms.

Back downstairs, The Majestic Restaurant is a sleek reinterpretation of one of Singapore’s favourite Chinese dining rooms and serves modern Cantonese cuisine.

LOCATION
Nestled at the edge of Chinatown, the New Majestic is a convenient 20 min drive from the airport, and just a two min walk away from the Outram Park MRT station. The city is located just five minutes drive from the hotel.

R-U-A Spendthrift or A Tightwad?

"You are considering the price tag on an expensive pair of boots.

To the economist, your decision to buy the boots should be purely rational. You should think: Do I have the money to afford these boots? If so, is the pleasure they will give me equal to or greater than the cost? —"

Born Cheap
For 300 years, we’ve been preaching thrift as a virtue. But what if it’s something that’s inherited rather than learned?

Lauren Weber’s father is, to put it bluntly, cheap. When she was growing up in the cold winters of Connecticut, he refused to turn the thermostat above 50 degrees. He washed all the dishes by hand, in cold water, even though the family owned a dishwasher. He even used hand motions to signal a turn while driving so his turn-signal bulbs would last longer.

As a kid, Lauren bristled at her dad’s frugality (and when she wanted an extravagance, like Guess jeans, she went to Mom). She feared that her family was secretly on the verge of bankruptcy. They weren’t—her father was, in fact, a professional economist, teaching at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He didn’t lack for money. A lifestyle of extreme thrift simply felt right to him.

Then, when Lauren grew up, a funny thing happened: She realized that she’s now cheap, too. And she noticed something else. Her older sister, like her and her father, is very mindful of money. Her older brother is not. Although Lauren carefully compares the prices of dried beans ($1.49 for twelve servings) and canned beans (79 cents for four servings), her brother thinks nothing of eating out all the time. He doesn’t live beyond his means, but he definitely hasn’t adopted the same tightwad attitude that Lauren did.

This scenario might sound familiar to you: One sibling winds up a saver while another is a spender, despite having been raised in the same household. That this happens is not that unusual. What’s interesting is why.

Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP

Back in the day, I had a “frenemy” who, as it turned out, was pretty hell-bent on taking me down. This person really did what they could to hurt me. I was deeply upset, I was angry, I was all of those things you feel when you find out that someone you thought you liked was venomous and dangerous. I restrained myself from fighting back. I tried to take the high road. But one day I heard that something unfortunate and humiliating had happened to this person. And my reaction was deep relief and…happiness. There went the high road. So, why does it feel so good to hear something bad about someone you don’t like? Or someone you DO like? Or someone you don’t KNOW? I once asked the editor of a tabloid newspaper why all of the stories about a famous British couple had a negative bent. He said that when the headline was positive, the paper didn’t sell. Why is that? What’s wrong with us? I asked the sages to shed a little light.
Here’s to washing our mouths out with soap...

Gwyneth Paltrow

Actress. Born on September 28, 1972, in Los Angeles, California. The daughter of Tony Award-winning actress Blythe Danner and television producer Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth Paltrow grew up no stranger to the world of Hollywood. After living in Los Angeles, Paltrow moved with her family to New York at age eleven. The precocious young blonde made her stage debut at just five years old in a theater in Massachusetts's Berkshire Mountains, where her mother performed in summer stock.

As she grew up, Paltrow's burgeoning beauty and developing acting talent began to win her small film roles, beginning with Shout and Hook in 1991. After a well-received spot opposite her mother in the television mini-series Cruel Doubt (1992), Paltrow decided to abandon her art history studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara to pursue acting full time.

She's also married to Chris Martin! guys, imagine that Chris comes home & sings her songs..LOL that would b 2 cool!

Satire Friday

Some of the topics may be controversial. These post are not intended to offend anyone.

Aaron McGrude

FANS fearing that "The Boondocks," the wildly scathing, racially charged comic strip, will lose its bite when it appears on television next week need not worry. Within the first 10 seconds of the new show of the same name, viewers will be offered the following Molotov cocktail of social criticism: "Jesus is black, Ronald Reagan is the devil and the government is lying about 9/11."
Since its national debut six years ago, the strip, about two black children living in white suburbia, has slaughtered its share of sacred cows, eviscerating everyone from Condoleezza Rice and Strom Thurmond to 50 Cent and Ralph Nader. President Bush has been a frequent target. As a result, the strip has been suspended, banished to editorial pages and dropped from some newspapers (it currently appears in more than 300).
Trying to translate that incendiary spirit into great television will be a challenge, an expensive challenge at that. Cartoon Network pays Sony Pictures Television, producer of the series, an estimated license fee of $400,000 per episode. Add to that the millions the network has spent on marketing, including many billboards in New York and Los Angeles trumpeting the show's premiere on Nov. 6 in the late-night "Adult Swim" block, and "The Boondocks" becomes the most expensive show the network has made.
"We don't have a lot of money, so we decided that for this year, we're going to put every dime we have into 'Boondocks,' " said Mike Lazzo, senior vice president of programming and production at Cartoon Network.

Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm New Season

N the pantheon of fictional houseguests that spans from Sheridan Whiteside to Blanche DuBois to Mork from Ork, perhaps none has wreaked as much havoc in the lives of his hosts as the character of Leon Black. On the most recent season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” the underdressed layabout Leon was a willfully vulgar foil to the television incarnation of Larry David, offering assistance that fractured the few relationships Mr. David’s misanthropy alone could not demolish.
But for as much trouble as Leon has caused others, he has been nothing but a boon to J. B. Smoove, the writer and performer who portrayed the character on the acerbic HBO sitcom. The role has been a vehicle for Mr. Smoove to reach an increasingly wider audience and an opportunity to stretch the boundaries of what his comedic alter egos can get away with.

Koolaburra/Uggs

$300.00
Guys, my mom,dad & my sis told me how comfy these boost r 4 years but I just ignored wht they said because the way the look...but omg when I put these boots on they were amazingly comfy..especially in the cold winter..it feels as though ur feet r in a extremely comfy couch..soft & fuzzy! I think the fringes r sooo cute in these boots! In fact I'm about 2 walk out the door with them on right this min..lol

& what does uggs mean .. I think theres a bit of a miss understanding 2 this word turned brand..
Do you love the look of UGG boots and shoes, but can't quite figure out where the name UGG comes from? It is an unusual name. UGGs have a rich history that is quite surprising.

To start with, UGGs are a type of boot that was originally made by sheep shearers in the Outback of Australia. These sheep shearers tended the flocks of Merino sheep, some of the softest and highest quality wool available. To combat the coldness of early mornings and late nights in the Outback, sheep shearers began making a type of slip-on boot that was double sided - incredibly soft, fluffy Merino wool on the inside and soft yet sturdy sheepskin on the outside.

Hence it MUST b made of sheep's shearers !..lol ..I covered uggs  b4 but I just wanted 2 elaborate a bit more.
