Dutch Pavilion at Venice Architecture Biennale

The installation 'vacant NL' calls upon the dutch government to make use of the enormous potential of inspiring, temporarily unoccupied buildings from the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st centuries for innovation within the creative knowledge economy.

Is there so much unused architecture in the netherlands?

Few people think that a lot is left empty in the netherlands. On the contrary, many in the netherlands and abroad regard the country as densely populated and heavily occupied. some even regard the netherlands as full: There is hardly any room left for anything or anyone. It might therefore come as a surprise for them to know that a large part of the netherlands is indeed vacant and is growing more vacant by the day. Millions of square metres to which no one pays any heed are at stake.

Side Effects of Ingredients

Reported in his latest science report that more than 60% of applied cosmetics enter our bloodstream and therefore influence our system significantly. Commonly used ingredients were partly carcinogenic, mutagenic (changing DNA structures), toxic or have negative influence towards our hormone system. All ingredients increase the potential of allergies:

LCOHOL DENAT = SD ALCOHOL 38-C

solvent, very drying, allergenic, protein changing, DNA changing, toxic.

ALUMINIUM

The Aluminium family is a suspicious link in the development for Alzheimer disease and breast cancer. Especially dangerous in deodorants.

BENZOPHENONE, 3,4,5,6

Chemical sun protector, very negative influence reported by the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Growth increase in breast cancer cells as well as uterine cancer cells.

CERA MICROCRISTALLINA

see MICROCRISTALLINE

DEA, MEA, TEA

( Diethanolamin, Monoethanolamin, Triethanolamin)

As foaming agents and humectants in many bath, wash and shower products, influence the hormonal distribution. Cancer causing- especially for liver and kidneys. Allergenic.

(Study of US Food and Drug Administration Center for Safety FDA, Dec 9,1999)

DIMETHICONE

Silicone oil=Mineral oil based, chemical fat; used in hair care products, finishing products, ecologically difficult to degrade , pore clogging.

DMDM HYDANTOIN

Chemical preservative, allergenic, carcinogenic, allergenic, formaldehyde forming.

FD&C and D&C COLOR PIGMENTS

Often carcinogenic compounds, containing tar and lead. Through the use of coloring and chemical dyes skin cells are deprived of oxygen. In animal studies cancer and tumors have been observed.

HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL

Mostly made from mineral oil, can have traces of dioxane and formaldehyde.

HYDROQUINONE

medicinally active component. Contained in hair dye, hand cream, "freckle soap", used as a bleaching agent against age spots and pigment marks, allergenic and highly toxic.

IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA

Chemical preservative, allergenic, changes protein structures, allergisierend, formaldehyde forming, carcinogenic.

ISOHEXADECAN

Synthetic fat made from mineral oil. Stays on top of skin and cannot penetrate. Interrupts skin cell oxygenation. Blackhead forming.

ISOPROPYL ALKOHOL

Solvent; denaturated alcohol. Made out of Mineral oil (petroleum).

Used also in anti freeze and a solvent in schellack. Inhalation can cause dizziness, headache and vomiting. Carcinogenic.

MINERAL OIL

Often used in lip balms, body lotions, face emulsions, creams. Extremely cheap petrochemical made out of Petroleum . Covers skin like a plastic wrap. Interrupts skin oxygenations. Lip balms often have that "dependency" effect. It produces the exact problem you want to get rid of. Baby oil often is made out of mineral oil. Acne and blackheads are the "minor" problems caused by mineral oil. Long time studies show that MO is responsible for premature ageing of skin.

MICROCRYSTALINE WAX or CERA MICROCRISTALLINA

Mineral oil, covers skin, toxins cannot permeate. In animal studies it caused defects in growth. The FDA recommends not to use this substance.

OXYBENZONE

Chemical sun protector, very allergenic. Very negative reports from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Promotes cell growth in uterine cancer cells and breast cancer cells.

PARAFFINUM LIQUIDUM

Variation of mineral oil, see mineral oil. Interrupts detoxification of skin.

PARABENE (METHYL-, PROPYL-, ETHYL-, BUTYL-)

Contained in 99% of all cosmetics. From the industry considered as "food grade". The latest scientific findings doubt that. A study lead by the Brunel University in London revealed that parabens negatively influence the hormonal system as they mimic estrogen. The dermatological department of London University found traces of parabens in breast tumors. Additionally parabens are the 20 most found allergenics.

PERFUME / PARFUM (FRAGRANCE)More than 4000 chemical variations are named "fragrance". These chemicals can cause headache, nausiness, vomiting. Hyperpigmentation of skin and general sensitivities. In children hyperactivity was observed.

PEG

Short for Polyethylene Glycol, originally developed to clean very dirty ovens and greasy floors in car repairs. Destroys the skin's natural ph and sensitizes the immune system. Carcinogenic.

PETROLATUM

Another varation from the mineral oil family. Cloggs pores. Especially in the sun a heat barriere was observed. Heat cannot evaporate. Causes "Mallorca Acne".

PROPYLENE GLYCOL

Well known "anti freeze", found in many skin care products (Toners, Ampoules, etc.) 1994 the Medical Post published an article stating that through the use of PEG anxiety attacks were observed due to the increase of beta activity in the brain, liver disorder and kidney disorders were mentioned as well.

If PEG comes in contact with skin -after three minutes it is detectable in the blood stream. Especially in deodorants it is dangerous.

SODIUM LAURYLSULFATE

Foaming agent. Contains traces of formaldehyde (carcinogen) and nitrosamine. Damages the iris and retina. SLS was detected in organisms five days after initial application. Permeates skin in two minutes. Extremely drying. Destroys ph balance. Can form eczema.

TRIETHANOLAMINE (TEA)

Acid base regulator. Carcinogenic. Nitrosamine builder. Allergenic.

TRICLOSAN

Chemical preservative and bactericide, destroys skin protecting microorganisms. Permeates skin and can cause severe liver damage. Used often in deodorants and anti bacterial washs.

Very allergenic. Danger of photo allergy.

IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA and DMDM HYDANTOIN
Preservatives forming carcinogenic formaldehyde (study of the Mayo Clinic). Formaldehyde irritates the entire breathing system. Destabillizes the immune system.

Chronic fatigue and cancer were reported. High concentrations in Deodorants and Anti Perspirants as well as nail polish.

Miyavi - Itoshii Hito

Miyavi is an amazing gutarist!

Brisky fresh cool fall days r nice:)

Miuccia Prada

Prada, Miu Miu

Born in Milan in 1949 with the name Maria Bianchi, Miuccia Prada would not follow the path of any typical fashion powerhouse. In fact, her intense academic path is so far away from the stereotypical glitz and glamour of the fashion world, that one would think she intentionally steered herself in such a direction.

In 1913, Miuccia’s grandfather, Mario Prada, started the original Prada label. The signature handbags, shoes and walrus-skinned suitcases were famous across Europe and the United States, garnering a fan base that would somehow weather both World Wars (source). The classic leather accessories and waterproof handbags designed by Mario would become the essence of the Prada label standard of class and elegance.

A MODEL SUMMER by Paulina Porizkova

From Publishers Weekly

Set in 1980, this smooth, predictable first novel by model, actress and children's book author Porizkova tells the story of Jirina, who arrives in Paris a beautiful 15-year-old aspiring model. A Swede of Czech background, Jirina escapes teasing classmates when she's discovered and shipped off to a well-known modeling agency. Leaving behind divorced, unsympathetic parents and a beloved little sister, Jirina moves into the apartment of agency head Jean-Claude; his depressed ex-model wife, Marina; their neglected baby daughter; and another Swedish teen model. As household tensions rise, Jirina strikes out on her own, befriending the famous model Evalinda (also from Sweden), a gay makeup artist and a rich, cultured man who worships her—all while nursing a crush on a dashing Australian photographer. Jirina slowly gains confidence; meanwhile, those around her abuse drugs, have abortions, attempt suicide, get gay-bashed and die tragically. Jirina loses her virginity, finds disappointment in love and learns to use sex to forward her career. Her drive is palpable and her voice believable, but Jirina isn't much fun (others, bien sûr, are downright mean), and you can see the plot points coming from way down the runway. Too many loose ends make for an unsatisfying finale. (Apr.)
