WRITTEN IMAGES: CONTEMPORARY CALLIGRAPHY FROM THE MIDDLE EAST

The work of more than a dozen Middle Eastern artists is now on display at Sundaram Tagore Gallery in Chelsea. Written Images: Contemporary Calligraphy from the Middle East explores the role of traditional Islamic symbolism in the context of the modern Arab world. Informed by the visual elements of ancient Islamic art, the exhibit examines the idea of the written word in religious, political, and social terms.

Sundaram Tagore Gallery, 547 West 27th Street, Open Tuesday – Saturday 10.00- 18.00. Until 3 December.
